The idea of hypnotherapy frightens some people because they have seen stage hypnotists and think they will be losing control. In fact, the hypnotherapy process is exactly the opposite. it's all about helping you take control of your own life. Here are some things you should know about hypnotherapy....

Fact: Hypnotherapy is pleasant
The experience of hypnotherapy varies for each person but most describe it as a pleasant state of drifting. You are not asleep but aware of what is going on at all times. The intense state of relaxation just makes it easier for your mind to absorb motivational, reinforcing or reassuring information.

Fact: Hypnosis is a natural trance state
Whenever you are deeply absorbed in something like reading or listening to music you often enter a natural trance state without being aware of it.  The hypnotic trance induced in hypnotherapy is the same.

Fact: People cannot be made to do things against their will
Not only that but you are aware of what is happening at all times and can come out of hypnosis at any time simply by choosing to do so. No person can be hypnotised against their will but that rather defeats the point of seeking help through hypnotherapy.

Fact: Our therapists have professional qualifications
Nobody should consult a hypnotherapist who does not have a professional qualification, issued by a reputable professional body. As members of The General Hypnotherapy Register (GHR), overseen by the General Hypnotherapy Standards Council, our therapists are required to undergo and pass a recognised course of professional training and  subscribe to a code of professional ethics.  This gives you added protection and a reassurance of quality.

Fact: Hypnotherapy is not mysterious
Hypnotherapy is a personal therapy that communicates with the ‘unconscious mind’ rather than the conscious mind. When we talk about the unconscious mind  we simply mean the part of your mind that deals with spontaneous feelings, emotions, beliefs, memories, perception, memory and the body’s automatic functions like breathing etc. The conscious mind is the more 'logical' part you tend to be more aware of day to day -  the part you use for deliberate thinking and problem solving. When your conscious mind feels you "should" be doing something (quitting smoking, losing weight, feeling more confident, flying without fear) but you still don’t do it, it’s because your unconscious mind is in control.

Hypnotherapy a totally natural, safe method of treatment, has no unpleasant side effects and is suitable for just about anybody. It can be used to address a wide range of practical, physical and emotional situations.
